Water First. Housing That Works.
A Future for Maui Families.

Jonʻs focus and committment to Maui County is simple:

Practical leadership focused
on the foundations Maui
needs to move forward.

Jon Yokouchi is running for Maui County Council’s Upcountry residency seat to help address the issues affecting our families every day—from the shortage of reliable water to the urgent need for attainable housing.

Jon believes we cannot continue approving growth without first investing in the water systems, infrastructure, and long-term planning our communities need.

“Before we build, we need water. And before we lose more local families, we need real solutions that help our people stay, work, raise their children, and grow old here.”

Maui Cannot Move Forward Without Water

Water affects nearly every challenge facing our island.

It affects where homes can be built, whether farms can continue operating, how our communities prepare for emergencies, and whether local families have a realistic future here.

Jon believes expanding Maui’s water capacity must become an immediate County priority. That means identifying responsible opportunities for additional wells, investing in reservoirs and storage, maintaining the systems we already depend on, and making decisions based on Maui’s long-term needs—not temporary political solutions.

Before we talk about more development, we must make sure Maui has the resources and infrastructure to support it.

Jon is focused on the Foundations Maui County needs

Jon’s priorities are connected.

Reliable water supports housing. Thoughtful housing keeps families home. Strong local communities create a healthier and more sustainable Maui.

1st PRIORITY - WATER

Secure Maui’s Water Future

Water must come before unchecked growth.

Upcountry families, farmers, and businesses have lived with water restrictions and limited capacity for too long.

Jon supports a practical approach to strengthening Maui’s water future by exploring additional wells, expanding reservoir and storage capacity, improving infrastructure, and protecting dependable water sources. Maui County must plan ahead rather than waiting for the next shortage or emergency.

2nd PRIORITY - HOUSING

Housing Local Families Can Afford

Growth should create opportunities for Maui residents—not push them farther away.

Maui needs housing, but housing cannot be discussed separately from water, infrastructure, transportation, and the cost of living.

Jon supports responsible growth that creates attainable homes for working families, kūpuna, and the next generation. County decisions should prioritize housing that meets the real needs of Maui residents while ensuring communities have the resources necessary to support new homes.

The goal should not simply be to build more.

The goal should be to build responsibly, strengthen existing communities, and create realistic pathways for local families to remain on Maui.

3rd PRIORITY: LOCAL FAMILIES

Keeping Maui Families Home

Our measure of success should be whether local families can continue building their lives here.

Maui’s rising cost of living, limited housing supply, and infrastructure challenges are forcing too many families to consider leaving the island they call home.

Jon understands that decisions made by the County Council affect everyday life—from the availability of water and housing to the cost of doing business and raising a family.

He wants Maui’s children and grandchildren to have the opportunity to remain here, find meaningful work, purchase or rent a home, raise their families, and contribute to the community.

Every major County decision should begin with one question:

How will this help Maui’s people?

Jon is not running to make unrealistic promises.

He is running to bring a practical perspective to the County Council, ask difficult questions, and focus attention on the foundational issues Maui must address.
